Dr. Chris Stokes is a large animal surgeon at San Antonio Equine Hospital, specializing in advanced orthopedic and upper airway surgery. Driven by a lifelong commitment to the health and longevity of equine athletes, Dr. Stokes combines state-of-the-art surgical techniques with practical, compassionate care to help horses return safely to peak performance and health.

Dr. Stokes earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University before pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Midwestern University. Following veterinary school, Dr. Stokes completed a rigorous equine medicine and surgery rotating internship at the renowned Peterson & Smith Equine Hospital in Ocala, Florida. Advanced, specialized training followed through a three-year large animal surgical residency at Mississippi State University.

When not in the operating theater, Dr. Stokes enjoys spending quality time with his wife Emily, and two boys Weston and Clayton. He also enjoys being outdoors hunting and fishing, and being horseback when time allows. As a dedicated veterinary professional, Dr. Stokes is proud to support and advocate for the health, safety, and welfare of the region's equine population.
